IMPORTANT: This multimedia format is supported by the INTERACT Player natively, so select the INTERACT Player for instant playback.
The following instructions and configuration details are only applicable if you decide to activate the Windows Player instead!
The MP4 format (container) is based on the Apple QuickTime format. But as with avi and wmv, the name of the container does not tell you what is actually inside the package.
To make things even more confusing, there is also a compression routine (codec) that is referred to as MPEG-4 (started out as H.263, now also available as H.264 or even H.265).
Note: One of the best H.264 implementations is stored in an avi container and is discussed in XVID/DIVX Compressed Videos. Alternative setups can be found in H.264 implementations.
There are many different MPEG4 specifications and even more implementations and not all can be handled equally well.
If you want to return to your previous setup, you can activate the Windows player and use the DirectX method. For this setup a proper decoder is required.
IMPORTANT: Using the Windows player, you need to identify, install and activate the correct DirectShow video codec!
(Sometimes you need to adjust the MP4V codec settings and sometimes you need to adjust them for H264)
Switch Player
How to switch between players is described in Multimedia Playback.
MP4 in Avi
If an MPEG4/H.264- implementation was stored in an avi, the Windows Player will try to open the videos using the directX method. For this also a proper video codec is required:
▪Follow the directions in H.264 Implementations.
