If your recording results in one or more empty *.MP4 files (size=0K), your graphics board is not able to handle all the workload.

Especially when using some older Intel HD Graphics, changing this registry change may resolve the issue:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Medialooks\MFormats\MFWriter\external_process = false

 

MP4 videos are created when you record network streams through rstp: or when recording any of the Windows AV sources (webcam, microphone etc)
