A Code Archive, serves as formatting template for most statistics. It automatically stores a collection of all, study specific, Code and Class combinations found in your document(s).
IMPORTANT: The Code Archive it is NOT used for logging behavioral Events!
This is done with the Code definition files, those are described in the section Define Observation Codes.
Since version 20 it can be used for adding Codes to existing Events though, as described in Explorative Data Collection.
Code Archive Features
This hidden but powerful tool enables you to:
oRearrange the order of Codes and Classes, as described in Code Archive Editor.
oCreate multi-level hierarchies by dragging Classes into other classes.
oAssign diagram colors for each Class and Code, for the graphical display in the Timeline Chart
oDefine abbreviations or translations for each Code and Class, to be used for exporting statistics.
oTranslate Code and Class expressions for a presentation of your statistical results, with the help of the Abbreviation field.
oAccumulate different Codes to a single expression, using the Abbreviation field.
oDescribe each Code and Class in detail (for documentation purposes)
oStructure statistics identically, in multiple data files, if they are linked to the same Code Archive.
Note: Per default, the Code Archive is named like the first Code definition file that is used for coding.
Code Archive Specifics
oThe Code Archive content, is build up automatically, every time a document is saved.
oEach data file is assigned to a project-specific Code Archive, its Codes are automatically transferred to that Code Archive.
oAssign only data files, that use the same set of Code Definitions, to the same Code Archive, so you do not mix-up coding systems.
oPer default, the Code Archive is named like the active Code Definition file, the moment you start a coding session.
oCodes once coded, stay in the Code Archive. Even if you delete them from your data file. Either create a new Code Archive or remove the obsolete Codes manually in the Code Archive Editor.
oIf you delete a Code from the Code Archive, it automatically reappears, if you save a linked data file in which this Code is still present.
oYou can look at the Code Archive as the implemented version of your category system.
oDo not worry about it too much, is not of importance, until you start analyzing your data.
oIf you change the hierarchy in your Code Archive, linked file(s) are automatically re-arranged accordingly. You can view and edit this Code Archive by using the Code Archive-Editor.
Transfer a Code Archive
Whenever you have adapted you Code Archive and want to use this specific Code Archive on another computer (without having to redefine any of the colors, abbreviations or descriptions), you can simply copy the Code Archive file from one system to another.
All you need to do, is locate your current Code Archive file, which is stored in the current INTERACT user data folder!
As explained in INTERACT File Storage Structure, the location the Code Archive is always fix within the current Mangold INTERACT Data folder: ..\Mangold INTERACT Data\CodeArchives
The location of this folder, depends on the location INTERACT is started from.
▪To open the currently active Mangold INTERACT Data folder, click General - Folder - User Data .
In that CodeArchives folder, all currently available Code Archive files are stored.
▪Copy the appropriate *.xicar file from here and transfer it to the active ..\Mangold INTERACT Data\CodeArchives folder on the other computer or license key.
