If information is missing, after your initial coding session, INTERACT allows you to extend your data any time. Depending on your needs, you can:
oAdd new Events manually, in another run through the video, logging new Events manually.
oAdd extra Codes, to existing Events, using the Coding mode Refine existing Events.
oCombine codes from different Classes within the same Event, as described in Move & combine Codes.
oDuplicate existing Classes, so you can rename the original Codes, to create aggregations
oAutomatically create new Events and Codes for simultaneous behavior, as described in Co-occurrence Filter
oAutomatically create new Events and Codes, based on contingencies (= latencies between two Codes) found, as described in Contingency Analysis
oAutomatically Fill Gaps in your codings with new Events, as is described in Fill Gaps with Data
oCreate preceding and succeeding intervals around each occurrence of a specific Code, as described in Create Pre- and Post-Events.
oVirtually Merge Codes and Classes for analysis, as described in Merge Codes and Classes Virtually.
Add new Codes
Should information be missing, and the missing information cannot be automatically extracted by searching for co-occurrences or by finding contingencies, you need to run another coding session within the same data file.
oIf these new Codes require individual timing, you need to create new Events.
oIf the new Codes are in fact details to existing behavior and do NOT require individual timing, you can add the Code(s) into existing Events.
In New Events
▪Adding Codes, by creating new Events in already coded DataSets, can be done anytime you like. The procedure does not differ from the initial coding session:
▪Click anywhere into the DataSet to be extended, to make sure that the new Events are logged within this DataSet.
▪Click to activate the Observation mode and start coding like before.
Those new Events are inserted at the position you clicked.
▪To display your Events in chronological order, click Edit - Sort - .
Into Existing Events
To refine or correct your coding, it is possible to insert Codes into existing Events:
▪Open the data file to be changed.
▪Make sure you have opened the code definition file you need, under Start - Observation - Define Codes .
▪Click Start - Observation - Observation settings
▪Select Refine existing Events as you coding mode.
▪Confirm your settings with OK.
▪Click , to activate the Observation mode.
▪Select an Event that needs to be altered.
▪Play the sequence, by double-clicking the Event or pressing F12.
▪Observe and log the required Codes using the Coding panel or the shortcut [keys].
