Create a Template

To easily re-use the settings and structure of a data file, create a template.

A template can contain anything a data file can!

Typical Template Items

oThe name of the project-based Code Archive (assigned to a document in the File properties).

oPredefined structure, containing DataGroups and DataSets with specific descriptions.

oPredefined Independent Variables, including corresponding value lists.

oPredefined Class-columns, so they appear in a specific order.

oPredefined Intervals or Events that can be used for training purposes, so the trainee only needs to classify the behavior, not the timing.

o...

TIP:Use the routines described in Clear Codes or Events to remove observational data from an existing data file.

Create an INTERACT data file containing all information you want appear in the template.

If your document contains the structure and information you need for every observation, you can save it as a template:

Click Start - Current Document - Save Btn_save > Save as... in the toolbar.

Type the name of your new template in the 'Save as...' dialog.
(Always name your files in a recognizable way, so it tells you about the contents of the file, just by looking at the name.)

Add .atp to your file name or, if available, choose the file type INTERACT Template (*.atp) from the drop-down list in the Save as... dialog.

Template location

You can save the new template file in any easy accessible folder, so everybody can use it. Each user can open the template like any other INTERACT document.

The difference between a template and a regular *.xiact file is, that opening a template automatically creates a new, unnamed copy of the file.

The resulting data file contains everything that was predefined in the template. This minimizes the risk of overwriting the original file, so it can be re-used again and again.
