Note: The shortcut keys, assigned to your Codes, are used internally by INTERACT at all times, even if you use the Coding panel to log your Codes.
How exactly INTERACT reacts to your actions during a session, depends on the activated Coding mode and selected coding options:
Marker - INTERACT logs just one single time code whenever a Code without duration is logged. Because start time = Offset for those Events, only the start time is shown in solid black, the Offset time is grayed out. |
▪Read Define Observation Codes for more details.
Standard - INTERACT logs a the start time as soon as you click a Code or press its [key]. As soon as you click this Code or press this [key] again, an end Offset is logged as well. |
▪Read Coding Mode: Standard (ad hoc), for details about this Coding mode.
Push & release - The duration of an Event is determined by holding down the [key] of a Code. INTERACT logs the the start time as soon as you press the [key]. The moment you release the [key], the Offset is logged. (Also works in the Coding panel, if you keep the mouse pressed.) |
▪Read Push & Release mode for further details.
Mutually exclusive - INTERACT can automatically 'close' a previous Event by entering the offset as soon as you log the Code for a newly appearing behavior. This means you only need to log the start of each behavior! (Only works in the coding mode Standard.) |
▪Read the section Coding Consistently & Sequentially for details.
Lexical - The start time and Offset for each Event can be logged with the SPACEBAR! All further Codes for the current Event do not influence the time information. This results in sequential Events per pass. You can also use the top-level Codes of the current Coding system to log your Events. |
▪Read Coding mode: Lexical (post hoc) for details about this Coding mode.
Continuous - If you need to log the various states for multiple subjects and have a Code for every situation that may occur, INTERACT offers the coding mode Complex. Each Event is logged with duration and per subject (any first-level Codes) a sequential string of Events is created. |
▪Read Coding mode: Complex to learn more about this Coding mode.
Most of those options can be combined in any way you like them.
