If you decide that you want to observe all different types of information in one pass per Subject, you need to start and end each Event with a Code from the top-level file, instead of using the SPACEBAR.
In this example we continue by describing the three-passes per Subject method described in Reduce Codes per Pass.
▪Open the Code definition file that holds your Pass 1 Codes, the Movement Codes in this example.
Select Coding Mode
Picking the right coding mode not only depends on the things like Event-Sampling-based coding versus Time-Sampling-based coding, Hierarchical Codes and Mutually Exclusive Codes.
It also depends on the required accuracy and the length of the behaviors to be observed.
Fast changing behaviors require an other approach as behaviors that last minutes or even hours.
For further details on the other coding Modes, read Coding Mode Details.
Pass 1 - Movement Codes
We stick with our example in which we log the mutually exclusive movement Codes in our first pass:
▪Verify the Coding Mode that is currently active.
▪Select the Coding Mode Standard (ad hoc).
▪Open you video.
▪Select the subject you plan to observe.
▪Click to activate the Observation Mode.
▪Start logging Ad-hoc Events
Pass 2 & 3 - Hierarchical Codes
In this example, both the second and the third pass use two-level Codes.
▪Verify the Coding Mode that is currently active.
▪Select the Coding Mode Lexical (post hoc)
▪Rewind you video.
▪Select the Set for subject you plan to observe.
▪Click to activate the Observation Mode.
▪Start logging Post-hoc Events
TIP: | If you prefer to use the same coding mode for all passes, that is possible too: The way the Movement-Codes for Pass-1 are setup (with activated EOC option) allows you to use the Coding mode Lexical (post hoc) for these codes as well. |
