Due to the Prefixes used in FACS Multiple Passes - Lexical, a separate column per AU is created. Making corrections to this kind of coded data is a bit more complicated than with plain Codes, especially if the AU chosen to log the Event was wrong.
Edit Manually
First of all, making changes to existing Events can be done manually, at any time:
▪Click into the cell of your data file you want to change.
oPress RETURN to enter the edit mode.
oMake your changes.
oPress RETURN again to confirm.
Note: You cannot use the predefined Codes to enter new information into existing Events. In the coding mode Lexical, you always create a new Event.
Refine Existing Events
This classical method for making changes to existing Events is useful if you used the FACS Multiple Passes - No Prefix setup.
If you used the FACS Multiple Passes - Lexical setup, refining Events is not a useful method, at least not if you need to change the AU.
This is, because information for a new AU would be entered into another column and this does not remove the already coded data in the other columns.
New Event
If you logged an Event, but used the wrong AU to create it, it is best to re-create that Event and manually delete the wrong Event. Make sure that you are (still) in the Event logging mode to do this:
▪If the start time and offset of the wrong Event are correct, double-click on the start time of the Event that needs to be exchanged.
▪Pick the right AU to create a new Event with the same start time.
▪Double-click the offset of the Event to be exchanged and close the new Event, so it receives the exact same offset as the original Event.
▪Log Intensity and Laterality as usual.
▪Delete the original Event.
The biggest advantage is, that you can stay in the regular Event logging mode to make corrections.
